French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, the general-director of the French Gendarmerie, General Denis Favier, and French National Police General-Director Jean-Marc Falcone talk on January 9, 2015 to journalists at the presidential Elysee palace in Paris. Cazeneuve said on January 9 that a police operation was underway to « neutralize » the two suspects in the January 7 massacre of 12 people in Paris at the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine. The hunt for two brothers accused of killing the 12 people in an Islamist attack is underway as the pair spent a second night on the run despite a huge security operation. The brothers were thought to have carried out the attack, the worst in France for half a century, in revenge for the weekly’s repeated publication of cartoons mocking the Prophet Mohammed.
